Top 10 Wedding Songs of 2019
As the year draws to a close, we wanted to look back and reminisce on the most popular wedding songs of 2019 played Under the Covers Wedding Band!
There’s been a fair few! But as a live wedding band we understand the importance of picking the perfect song for your wedding day. Whether it’s walking down the aisle or your first dance, the wedding songs you choose become the soundtrack to your special day so it’s vital that you get them right.
So, without further ado we plunge headfirst into the whirlpool of those most popular (and romantic!) wedding songs of 2019…
10) Say You Won’t Let Go – James Arthur
This X Factor star’s 2016 hit is the perfect song for couples in love. It captures the romance and commitment of planning a future together. From those first few acoustic chords, it’s sure to get you feeling emotional (in all the right ways!)
Because what wedding playlist wouldn’t be complete without this world-class, ginger, pop sensation? We may be seeing more Sheeran popping up in this list, so watch this space! The song itself begins with the line “you look so wonderful in your dress” and if that isn’t the perfect start to any wedding song, we’re not sure what is?
Taking down the tempo to an all-time classic now, nobody quite does romance like blues singer Etta James. The song has also been covered perfectly by the likes of Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Cyndi Lauper and Eva Cassidy. Whichever version you prefer, this one’s sure to give you goose bumps every single time.
7) You Are the Reason – Calum Scott
This 2017 tune quickly found its way into the world of weddings due to the delicate piano alongside Scott’s beautiful vocal crescendos. He also recorded a duet version with Leona Lewis in early 2018 so if spine-tingling harmonies are your jam, look no further!
6) Can’t Help Falling in Love – Elvis Presley
What wedding is complete without a serenade from the king of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself? Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ record was so popular it went Platinum after selling more than one million copies. One of our favourite covers of this is the beautifully stripped-back 2017 remake from Haley Reinhart. Just stunning.
5) Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
Yep, as you may well have suspected, he’s back again. Nope - not Slim Shady, but our very own pop legend, Ed Sheeran. ‘Thinking Out Loud’ is one of the most iconic wedding songs to date. Singing about loving someone until you’re 70, it really is a romantic crowd pleaser for all ages to get up and slow dance to.
If this song is good enough to be dedicated John Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen (#CoupleGoals), then it’s sure as hell good enough for us! And why wouldn’t it be? With beautiful piano and honest lyrics about giving your ‘all’ to someone, it couldn’t be any more fitting for your wedding playlist.
3) Rewrite the Stars – Zac Efron & Zendaya
If you haven’t heard of The Greatest Showman, then where have you been and what have you been doing with your life? Yep, there’s a reason everyone’s been going crazy for this new musical sensation – and this song alone is definitely one of them. Zac Efron’s dreamy vocals complimented by Zendaya’s gorgeous tones can only be a recipe for great things. And it is. This song definitely brings a touch of magic to the dance floor – think romantic, magical, love at first sight type vibes and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what this song could bring to your wedding day.
2) A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
Whether you were a fan of the Twilight Saga or not, there’s a reason this was Bella and Edward’s love song in the final movie. We just can’t get enough of this, and seemingly neither can the rest of the brides and grooms across the globe, as it’s the second most popular wedding song in the UK! Its beat is perfectly timed to walking down the aisle but be warned – you’d better get your tissues at the ready for this one!
And that brings us sailing straight to everybody’s favourite; Ed’s done it again, stealing the top spot with his 2017 record ‘Perfect.’ From the beautifully fitting lyrics of love, to the stunning melody of this song, it really is the… perfect (sorry) tune to play at any wedding. And if you don’t fancy Ed’s version, some incredible artists have covered this well-known love song, including Beyoncé and Andrea Bocelli.
