Our Top Picks for Alternative Wedding Band Songs
There is no shame in saying you want something a little bit more unusual for your first dance song played by your wedding band – it’s no easy choice to make, after all! In our many years as a wedding band, we’ve played some fantastic live first dances.
We’ve compiled a list of alternative first dance songs to give you a little bit of inspiration for your wedding. From romantic tear-jerkers, to sweet crowd pleasers, there’s something for everyone in this mix!
This is one of those songs where as soon as you hear it, you instantly think “why does this not get played more often at weddings?!” Every lyric is so suited to spending the rest of your life with someone, making it a great choice of first dance song.
Not your typical first dance pick but after Bohemian Rhapsody saw its roaring success in cinemas, picking up many awards along the way, everybody seems to be having a Queen moment lately. And this song is not one to be neglected when it comes to first dance options!
Tissues at the ready for this one! It may be a real tear-jerker but who wouldn’t want to dance to one of the most iconic and talented musicians of his time – and to this day! Hallelujah is an incredibly romantic song, along with Buckley’s incredible vocal – you really can’t go wrong.
Better Together – Jack Johnson
If slow dances aren’t your thing then this could be one for you. A beautiful, relaxed, acoustic one here, with perfectly fitting lyrics for any two lovers about to tie the knot. If you’re not into cheesy romance, this is a great alternative for your wedding band to perform.
Another beautiful acoustic one, “I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweetheart” – how could this not be the perfect first dance song for your wedding day?
One that everybody in the room is sure to know – if you’re not keen on having all eyes on you for too long, this is the perfect song to get everybody up on the dance floor with you!
Baby I’m Yours – Arctic Monkeys
There’s no song Alex Turner couldn’t sing or write that isn’t musically incredible and this is no exception. Doused in romance, we’ll simply leave you with the first verse to give you an idea...
“Baby, I'm yours
And I'll be yours until the stars fall from the sky,
Yours until the rivers all run dry
In other words, until I die”
My own personal choice when I got married back in 2019 and, of course, Under the Covers Wedding Band performed. Fun and light-hearted it got everyone on the dancefloor with us.
